Tasting Notes

Pouilly-Fume is one of the Loire wine region’s most famous appellations, along with its neighbor Sancerre, just across the river. The Fume in the title actually means ‘smoky’ and refers to the gunflint (pierre a fusil) character of the appellation’s Sauvignon Blanc. The family-owned estates of Domaine Chauveau sit on 12 hectares of different types of soil (Kimmeridgian marl, flint clay, and limestone de Villiers), and has been producing Pouilly Fumé for 5 generations.
